Magical Manorbier

DETAILS
Manorbier

3.7 miles from the cottage

There’s nothing quite like a Manorbier sunset!

Officially the closest beach to the cottage Manorbier is a beautiful rugged stretch of sand and stone. Backed by dunes and south westerly facing it is apparently the perfect spot for surfing. The headland is both beautiful and dramatic, a real on the edge of the world experience. To top it all, Manorbier has its own Castle to explore.

Driving through the sweet village of Manorbier and twisting and turning towards the coast is delightful. Manorbier Bay, although popular, feels more like a secluded off the beaten track beach. The beach is unspoilt by cafes and kiosks and the Castle, which can be seen from the beach, is both dramatic and imposing.

From the ample car park there are wooden board walks across the dunes to get to the beach. On one side of the beach is an inlet making a stream that runs across and out to sea, a delight for little ones making dams. There’s a basic toilet block in the car park - essential for any beach trip!

You can access the coastal path from either end of the beach. From the left side looking out to sea take the steps up onto the path and through the hedgerow archway. Follow the coastal path as it snakes up and around the headland. There are parts of the path that take you out beyond the landscape meaning that sometimes your only view is the sea in front of you. That real ‘edge of the world’ feeling. This stretch of the Pembrokeshire coastal path might actually be in our top three to explore. A real escape from it all here.

We have yet to explore the Norman castle and are waiting for a colder non beach day to do so. From the information on the website it looks wonderful. Occasionally the backdrop for T.V, film and weddings it offers an insight into Norman life. For those of us a bit older, it was in the BBC adaptation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. There’s a tea shop in the 13th century Guards room which serves homemade cakes, sandwiches and local freshly ground coffee.

We’ve seen both Surfers and Paddle Boarders out on the sea here. Be warned though - there are very strong currents around Manorbier, no doubt the reason it is popular with surfers! With no life guards, take care out on the sea.

We’ve observed cosy beach fires warming up surfers from their adventures. We’ve seen people playing frisbee and beach cricket into the evening. We’ve seen people enjoying the views from the headland. We even know it to be the perfect backdrop for a marriage proposal.

We love Manorbier Beach for a sunset walk around the headland or stone skimming into the night. The sunsets are stunning, almost other worldly, and always make us thankful to be there.

Getting there and car parks . . .

Manorbier is a short 10 minute drive from the Cottage and a frequent item on our itinerary. Whether in Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter Manorbier is delightful.

There is very easy parking in the car park. We’ve never been stuck for a space here.

I hope I’ve shared enough to convince you that Manorbier is a treat no matter the season! In particular don’t miss out on experiencing a Manorbier sunset!
